Here is a screen shot of the replacement projector I got last week. On this image I didn't change the color temperature and a grayer image yet its still nearly just as noticable. It appears to only affect the lower left half corner this time. What gives? Bad batch to my city?

Cheers,
T

Hi,

I'm having a very similar issue with this projector and was wondering if you ever got this resolved.

I just got a Panasonic AE8000U and out of the box there was a noticeable color shift across the image: the left side appeared bluish and the right side pinkish. This is noticeable even in the test pattern (the 2nd one with dark to light horizontal grey patches) which is generated from the projector. After some discussion Panasonic sent me a new projector and, to my eyes, it's even more noticeable, but in the replacement projector the shift is reversed: the left side is pinkish and the right side is bluish. This is most noticeable in the REC 709 and Cinema 1 picture modes. I contacted Panasonic again and they recommend I send it to their National Service Center to see whether it's repairable. They also commented that the original projector I sent back was tested and was within spec but I don't know whether the tests they run would detect this sort of chromatic non-uniformity.

Thanks for any help,
Andrew

I am lucky enough to be suffering both issues. My Epson with only 500hrs suddenly developed a yellow band down the right side-presumably a polarizer failure, just at the end of the warranty. They have sent me two replacements, both have significant color shifts from blue to magenta going left to right, and the first was way out of convergence. They are sending me a 3rd next week, but I have little faith I'll get a properly working model. Obviously, they fix gross issues and force you to take a remanufactured unit vs. fixing my original unit which is my preference since it's only got the polarizer issue. They refuse.

I would still love to know what is causing the color shift-epson won't comment on any issues, I think they are told not to, they act like you are the only person to have this complaint, and you can't speak to an actual technician who would know. This is my second Epson, and will be my last as I think their quality is lousy, but I've also had issues with Panasonic. I'm wondering if a local auth'd repairman could fix the unit or if I'd get the usual claim that it's within spec-but that's bull when you compare it to new units that have been reviewed. My mastercard purchase doubles warranties so I do think I could get them to pay. Ideas?

Don't give in to that ... it's not within spec. To Panasonic's credit, and after 2 replacements through the store (my 3rd projector) the issue is currently resolved. Since the color issues were instantaneous and obvious on the first two I imagine I'm good to go.

Just get a good picture and show it to a good store manager who will look into it properly. One of the assistant managers at the store I got it from at Visions, Aaron, was awesome he worked directly with the panasonic rep to try and figure it out. It sounds like they had a massive bad batch, the new one I have now even seems brighter than either of the other two, so my guess is the bad batch theory is true. Aaron got promoted to full GM at another store, don't have to wonder why.

Greetings,

I've found a color defect in my projector similar to the one tfunk reported.

If I project a white image the left side seems to have a slight pink tint and the right side a slight blue tint.
Should I send the projector to repair?

Best regards,
Danny
