Bit of a time sensitive situ: My DLP's throwing bad pixels, so I shipped it off for repair.
$898 is the quote from Samsung for the DLP chip. $295 labor and $200 in sunk postage. I spent $3,999 new (Canada model off Ebay). Zero issues and full kudos for the unit until this summer's first bad pixel.
First thought was to mull over getting an upgrade to the newest UST, but the owner was raving about how good the LSP9T was compared to anything else he's seeing in the shop. Mostly Vava, and they're plagued with issues. This is his first LSP9T.
I asked and he's not able to ID a better UST. Says this is better than new stuff, which makes me sad. I've been out of the market since 2020 as one of the first to buy the LSP9T.
So, before I commit to the repair, I ask you; has there been a better UST in production you can recommend? | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 13,326 |
The original price of this model was well over what you got it for and it remains a very solid unit. The DLP chip used in this model hasn't been upgraded, to my knowledge, EVER. So, any manufacturer using the .47" DLP chip, is using the exact same imaging chip that is in your projector. So, any improvements would be through processing, or a better lens, which just isn't going to get much better than what is on the model you have. I'd probably go ahead and get the repair done as this is a really good looking model overall and is well reviewed. https://www.projectorcentral.com/Samsung-LSP9T-UST-Laser-Projector-Review.htm Frustrating that it has had a DLP stuck pixel issue. Hopefully this does not come back again as an issue for you. Solid response. Thank you. Anecdotes from Reddit reflect your point that the LSP9T is a great model, and that nobody else has had dead pixel issues to date. Our only shared "complaint" is that the unit turns itself on autonomously on occasion, prompting undeserved rebukes from respective wives. The repair is a day underway. I'm looking forward it's return. There's no business like 130" show business! I'm also now aware of and very much looking forward to the next gen of Samsung UST due in 2024! |
