Greetings from Taipei
My beloved BenQ W1090 (connected to a Roku Ultra) takes a pause of 4-5 seconds whenever I go from a menu to a video. For example, when I look into the Youtube menu for what is available, it will display the image continuously until I click on a video. At this point, it will show a dark screen for the next 5 seconds, while the video starts in the background and the sound plays normally.
Any idea what could be causing the issue? It's been like this since the very beginning.

This is likely a resolution change when the video starts playing. You want to be sure your Roku is set to put out a specific resolution all the time. This is typically in SETTINGS-->VIDEO for most devices. This is not a projector setting, but a Roku setting.

As the resolution changes, the projector must re-sync the video connection, and that takes some time.

Hi AV_integrated, thank you for your answer.
This was my first hunch, along with image frequency. I have looked into the Roku's settings but it only offers a choice of resolution and nothing else.
I have tried playing with the fan and light controls on the projector, thinking that perhaps the eco mode on the lamp was changing things, but none of this made a difference.
Also, the same thing happens when a video preview starts within a menu (going from menu with still images to menu with video preview), which would imply it happens without a change in resolution.

I activated the projector information messages and I have been getting popup messages with the source, resolution, and frequency whenever the screen comes back from a black pause. I assume it means the projector loses the signal.

I was offered the solution on a different forum, and it was indeed an issue on the Roku side. Basically, I needed to disable the Frequency Matching, which is well hidden within the parameters.

For anyone looking for this, you'll find the setting under Settings/System/Advanced System Settings/Advanced Display Settings/auto-adjust display refresh rate.
