I'm in the process of developing a new system to standardize mounting of projectors (sort of like an add-on to make it even simpler than VESA is for monitors), and currently building prototypes that I'd like to share with informed users. The idea is to make it easy to attach and detach projectors from a standardized mount shape. -Making it cheap and simple for anyone to add all sorts of connection mounts. Does anyone have thoughts on whether this sort of thing would be useful to them, or what they'd _definitely_ want it to do? | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 13,326 |
This is what Chief is already doing.
The Chief RPMAU is the gold standard, in my experience, of mounts on the market. The universal bracket is easy to connect to pretty much any projector on the market, and has a very flexible interface which then connects to their standard RPMA mount.
Chief has used the same mounting pattern for 20+ years now which allows you to use a universal bracket or a custom bracket from 20 years ago with a brand new RPM mount, or you can keep your existing mount from 20 years ago and get a new custom or universal bracket for your new projector.
While 'price' is very important to a lot of people, I think that build quality is far more important at the end of the day. Buy ONE mount and have it actually last for 20+ years... that's something worth having. Thanks, that is a beautiful piece of hardware, and definitely a great way to serve the need. What I'm doing is a very different approach, and not competitive with that. I'm more about creating an inexpensive interface for diverse mounting and optical attachments. I'd be glad to send you a setup in a few weeks when I do the next batches, if you'd care to have a look and see if you think it's worthwhile. | member Joined: Jul 6, 2020 Posts: 3 |
I completed design and building of my projector mount system. The feedback I got from most folks was along the lines of "sure, that's cool, but nobody cares about projectors." If you're interested, you can see it at: http://coldmaceration.com/reality-bridge-system/
