What theater system? How are you connecting to it?

There are a lot reasons why you could be having issues, but your details are sparse.

Always provide the make and model of all gear that you are using in the process. If you don't have issues with other gear connected to your home theater setup, then the issue is most likely with the laptop itself, the cabling, or a combination of the two.

If you are using your headphone-out connection from the laptop, then that could easily be the issue. Many laptops don't have a great audio card in them, and that can cause issues.

If you are using digital or HDMI, then it makes less sense.

In almost all cases, issues when connecting a computer to an A/V system are computer related.

Yes, it's possible you need to update drivers, but it would help a lot if you would just tell me about your setup and how you have it connected. There may be a better solution.
