I'm finally upgrading projector (Pan PT-AE3000u) in my theater. I'm getting Sony VPL-VW285ES later in the year.

My theater is fully dark - 100% light control with dark surfaces and furniture. All seating positions are inside of 30 degrees of screen center.

Current screen is an equally old Da-Lite 100" 16:9 DA Snap with a matte screen. I think the gain is 1.1.

From what I'm reading, it appears getting a UHD/4K screen would give me a performance increase, so considering getting one now.

What gain would be best to optimize contrast, blacks, brightness for HDR and 3D for the Sony?

Also, it appears that generally 1.9:1 screens are not available, would it but I wonder if it would be worth it to custom order?

Finally which company's surfaces are considered best for handling this combination of requirements?

I would personally lean towards the HD Progressive 1.1 material from DaLite as an optimal choice for 4K.

It's a ultra smooth surface with high diffusion for solid image performance from any viewing position.

The Cinema Contour is one of their standard home theater screens with a proper deep black border and thick construction of very good quality.

You will want to consider screen size vs. viewing distance and if a 16:9 or a 1.9 screen is appropriate for you. I would possibly get the projector first, then decide which aspect ratio screen to actually get.

DaLite can typically custom make screens to order at any aspect ratio and you just need to contact a dealer to place the custom size order for you.

Hi Thanks! I had come across HD Progressive 1.1 in my searches... would HD Progressive 1.1 Contrast be a even better option?

The size actually is pretty fixed. I'm thinking the 16:9 110 is as big as will fit as I have a "naked" theater (front speakers are out in the room) and physical limitations prevent me going much wider.

Also my projector distance is too close (13 feet) to go much bigger anyways.

I was looking at the UTB Contour or the FullVision to maximize screen width. 100 inches is physical limit before getting shadows or screen block from LR tower speakers. I have a door that opens on the front left, the left speaker is just clear and the right matches that distance from right wall. This is also optimal sidewall distance for pure music listening.
