Hello

I had this Benq w5000 for many years: http://www.projectorcentral.com/benq_w5000.htm

It has been true 3 lamps, and the time is soon to get a new lamp or make an upgrade.

I was wondering if there would be any noticeable image quality improwemenst to perhaps go for the Benq w2000http://www.projectorcentral.com/BenQ-W2000.htm wich is newer and on sale in norway now? Or would a new lamp almost be the same?

Is there any thing out there in the Benq W2000 price range that is better? I see there is a SONY VPL-HW65ES also on sale in Norway now but it`s a little over double price from the Benq w2000.

Hope some of you have some advice.

Texas Instruments has done little in the last decade to improve upon their DLP chip technology and this really means that while we have seen pricing drop significantly on DLP products, we haven't seen actual improvements. In fact, in the goal for smaller/cheaper engines, there is some argument that quality has actually gotten worse from DLP in recent years on their newest chips.

I would stick with the W5000 if it is working well for you for one more lamp. Then see where 4K projectors are sitting at. The Sony HW45ES is a very solid model, but has a different look than DLP. It will have better contrast and a bit better color, but really, the W5000 (if it works) looks great and was a higher priced projector when it was on the market. I sold one that wouldn't work for more than a couple of months at a time. When it worked, it looked great.

Arguably better than most of what you will find under $2,000 today. Probably not as good as that Sony.

But, I would hold strong for 4K, and there should be tons of 4K options in the next couple of years.
