I am looking for some suggestions for a 5.1 audio system. I don't care if the speakers and receiver are purchased as separate units or if they come as one package. I want to get something that will fill up a decent size room nicely and have a nice sound quality without breaking the bank. I do not need anything real high end or anything that will blow the roof off, just a nice sound setup for watching movies. Would really like to be around $500 (or less if possible). Any input is appreciated. Thanks! | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 13,326 |
I'm not an audio system expert, and I don't keep track of the latest deals and specials, so you may be better served by a website like Audioholics, but take a look at www.accessories4less.com at their theater package as they often have some very good deals and have a decent website. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/onkhts5700/onkyo-ht-s5700-5.2ch-network-receiver-plus-5.1-speaker-package/1.htmlKeep in mind, that many people who just like a good sounding theater will spend at least half of their home theater budget on the audio portion, and good speakers can last for 15-20 years, while a projector typically lasts 5-10 years at the most. So, good speakers are a much better overall investment for long term use and enjoyment. klipsch reference series is a great place to start. http://www.klipsch.com/reference | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 13,326 |
I certainly wouldn't start with Klipsch reference series as a 'starting' point. Those are well beyond the budget of most, and make very little sense if a entry level setup is required.
Also, a lot of people don't like the sound of Klipsch as they are often a bright speaker depending on the room.
Plenty to listen to if you have a budget for audio in the thousands. AV Integrated - Theater, whole house audio, and technology consultation during the build and installation process in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. |
