This is pretty standard policy for many companies. Sony, Panasonic, and others have this policy.
Instead of taking it out on them, why not go back to the place you purchased it from and deal with them directly? If the company that sold you product as an unauthorized dealer won't support you then isn't it THAT company you should be dealing with and dragging through the mud?
I get that you are upset, and it sucks very much that you got a bum screen, but when companies sell out-of-network, they undercut the pricing of legitimate companies, and hurt the business and the industry as a whole.
Not your fault, but certainly the company you purchased from should be dealing with this, and if they aren't willing to help you and honor the product they sold you, then they are the ones I would deal with, and perhaps even take to court if they misrepresented their selling practice.
Not that Elite should be rude, but certainly there are three sides to every story.
I also know that when I order from places like Amazon, I find that they are quite often willing to take returns back directly so that I have some protection even when the manufacturer doesn't cover the out of the box issue.
