I have finally decided on the Epson 5030UB projector for my home theater, but in getting a quote from the company that I plan to purchase the items from, they quoted be $1600 for a 9 channel Receiver and I only have 5 speakers and a sub woofer $2000 for a Da-lite 100" UTB with 1.1 gain screen. Then they added a wireless HD multimedia system, a center speaker stand, that I don't need and approx. $1200 in parts and equipment. I do have 3D DVDs that I would like to use in the theater. I felt I could get by for a lot less on the screen and the receiver. Am I being taken?

Taken isn't the right word, but it does seem like the components are more than you need. You should ask them about the components in use and see how they match up to what you have and what you intend to do. They should be able to explain it.

On a 'modest' system with nothing more than mid-level volume on the sound, there are a number of A/V receivers which will do just fine.

In-wall labor for the wiring and such is typically one of the most significant portions of the bill. Places with lower labor rates often sell higher-end gear. So, you may want to check with another local provider who can put up some options.

A quality 100" fixed frame screen is typically $1,000 for top shelf quality.

A good mid-level A/V receiver is typically under $1,000.

It depends on what the entire setup is, and what speakers you are pairing to, if there are other rooms that are getting zoned off the main receiver, and what your quality and volume expectations are. The price may be fine for the components being suggested, but it sounds like more expensive components are being suggested.

Any chance you are in the DC area?

AV, you are too kind. Yes, they are trying to take you. Trying to sell you equipment you don't need, and more expensive equipment than you need. Just don't let them get away with it. If they insist you do, tell them not to let the door hit them on the [censored] on the way out.

If you think you may upgrade to a 7.1 system in the future, buy a 7.1 receiver. If not, buy a 5.1 receiver.

Sorry I am from the Chicago area, but the information was useful. The wiring is already installed from the pervious owner of the home, but will need to be updated, the wall speakers are already installed and there is a 3ft opening behind the wall for all equipment connections. Tomorrow I will be meeting with the company to revise their quote or I will find another company to do the work

Thanks

Do you know it needs to be updated? What wires are there? What wiring is being proposed to be upgraded? Don't confuse the recommendation of upgrading with the requirement of upgrading. It may or may not actually be required, it may just be suggested. It may not be necessary at all.

Feel free to take some photos, post full pricing/requirements, etc. so that more detailed answers can be provided to you.
