Topic: 1080P 3D projector with short throw?

A friend and I are doing a HT for our boss and I have run across an issue with throw distance. He wants a 12ft wide screen but we need to mount the projector about 11ft from the screen due to a sloping ceiling and a support beam that comes out of the ceiling. We really need to mount the projector on the support beam which is right at 11ft from the screen. I don’t think mounting any further back is an option because the beam would be in the way.
Is there a 1080P 3D projector out there that can handle this?
Do I need to purchase special lenses?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a rough layout of the room for reference. | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 13,326 |
No projectors appear to be able to do this. http://www.projectorcentral.com/projectors.cfm?g=1&hide=0&st=1&mfg=&p=&w=&r=13&br=&ll=&t=&db=&dt=&c=&ar=&dvi=&td=11&i=d&is=133&sort=%24&sz=15Short throw lenses mess with the image of projectors pretty severely, so there aren't many projectors designed for high quality home theater, that immediately distort their image by using a short throw lens. You will need to compromise on this somehow. Remember! Throw distance is lens to screen. Another choice is to look for a projector that has horizontal and vertical lens shift. This allows the projector to hang lower from the ceiling, to hang off-center, or to be otherwise in kind of an unusual spot and still provide the image dimensions one wants.
I have my Epson 8350 about two feet left of center, ceiling mounted, probably two or three inches lower than the screen. If I had justified it to the right instead of the left I probably could have lowered the projector several feet below the top of the screen, if I had wanted or needed to. |
