Hi All I am starting a new postion in two computer labs at the elementary school level. We have ceiling mounted projectors at both schools and they are two different models. One is a Dukane and one is something like Composto?? I did not have my glasses on and could not read that one when I looked at. Anyway. I powered on the remote for the one with the "C" name. I went to menu on the remote and configured the brightness to the optimal level. The screen was still very dim at the highest level. I switched to black and white and shut lights and even then images were dim. I am almost postive both bulbs need to be replaced at both schools. I need to be really sure on this before I go ask for these bulbs. Is there anything else I should try before I go to admin and beg for money for these bulbs? | member Joined: Jun 11, 2007 Posts: 1,740 |
I have never heard of a "Composto" brand, no idea what that is. Most likely, the lamps have reached the end of their life and need to be replaced. Lamps dim as they age and by the time EOL has been reached, they will have lost at least 75% of their rated output. Do you even know how many hours are on the lamps? And you will need to know exact make and model numbers to search for the lamps and what they cost. Lamps (the genuine OEM) are not cheap and considering this is for a school, do not even think of trying a generic or "compatible", they usually aren't and you will be wasting the school's money as they usually fail within a few hundred hours. Some don't, but that's not something you want to gamble on with someone else's money. If you need more help, we have to know exactly what you have. Thanks for your response. I will check for the exact specs on both projectors. The tech lab people use high school interns to help on their team and they sent one to my lab today to look at the projector. He tried everything I tried and still very dim. He said he does not think it could be the bulb bc the image would be shaking on the screen? I used to have a smart board not just this white board and lcd projector. My smartboard bulb seemed to always work fine. I barely had to adjust the screen. This intern also said that if the bulb was nearing its end life then there would be an indicator light on the projector? Not sure about that either. I do know these bulbs are very expensive depending on projector. So.. I have to be sure and trying to figure this out. I do not know how many hours are on the bulb. How can I check for that? I do not want to waste their money either that is why I need these facts so if they tell me its this problem or just this problem... I can respond and possibly go above them. They had to install a splitter on my teacher computer for the image output. I do not understand why they didn't power up the projector and check it after they did this. I am a teacher not tech support or installation person. That is what they are supposed to do. It is part of their job to make sure all the equipment is operational. I will get the specs asap. Thanks for your help thus far. | member Joined: Jun 11, 2007 Posts: 1,740 |
I would not let that intern anywhere near the projectors. Bulbs do NOT "shake", period. There is NO filament. And the indicator light ONLY illuminates when the lamp counter reaches a predetermined number of hours. The bulb can start to fail LONG before then and the projector won't know it. The hours in most projectors are checked using the menu. Since I don't know what you have, I can't tell you how to proceed. There is not standard in the industry on how menus should be structured. As far as a "splitter", video images CANNOT simply be "split". You MUST use a distribution amplifier. I have NO idea what they used, so I can't say that they did is or isn't correct. But if they DID use "splitter", as in, a simple cable with one in and two out, then you have the wrong people working on your equipment. See if you can find out what they used to "split" the signal. We can tell you what's what. Quote (TechLabTeacher on Aug 31, 2011 2:31 PM): Thanks for your response. I will check for the exact specs on both projectors.
