You are right, no VGA will be needed. The next laptop I buy will be equipped with HDMI so no worries.
I will be using a Playstation 3.
I will look into receivers that have at least 4 HDMI ports--hope they make some with that many!
Thanks for the link, have it marked in my favorites!
My projector is a Mitsubishi HC3800.

Thanks for all of this.....I'm planning ahead. Today Im going to get my PVC pipe and tubing for all the wiring! Hope to have it all ran by next weekend.

Bucknuts, why are you hooking up a PS3 AND a DVD player? You can play your DVD's on the PS3, then you could get by with a receiver with 3 HDMI inputs(cheaper). Plus the PS3 will upscale the DVD's and they'll look better than they will on the DVD player. Unless you're trying to have less hours on the PS3, to last longer? BY the way, I also have the HC3800. GREAT projector.

I would buy a receiver with at least 5 HDMI inputs and you won't be spending a lot more. Keep in mind a 5 port HDMI switcher is under 50 bucks, so that's a SMALL part of the purchase price of a receiver.

This thread has some good information:
http://forums.highdefdigest.com/home-theater-gear/79806-build-your-own-htib-400-800-a.html

This website has some good deals:
http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/AVReceiver/Home-Audio/Home-Theater-Receivers/1.html

As does this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=488&name=Receivers

Specifically:
http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKHTR580/Onkyo/HT-R580-7.1-Channel-3-D-Ready-Home-Theater-Surround-Receiver-From-HT-S5300-Package/1.html

That's a 4 HDMI input (1.4 spec!) 7.1 surround receiver for $200.

It's also really cheap and entry level, but even at that low price and small feature set, it'll get you going. Frankly, I would get something more like the Denon AVR-2311CI

http://usa.denon.com/us/Product/Pages/Product-Detail.aspx?Catid=3d9614d1-8000-4106-ab91-8192242cab83&SubId=40b5820d-83c2-4e93-9909-60aae60e0bdd&ProductId=5662dda6-8fab-49c0-835f-7803af2aa1a3

This has 6 HDMI inputs, upconverts non-HDMI sources to HDMI, and has enough power and product quality to make you happy for years to come.
