Alright, my projector is mounted in middle of the basement on the ceiling. I'm ready to run my conduit from the projector to my media closet. I have a playstation, Receiver, DVD player, computer, cable receiver, and dvd player in my media closet. Right now I only have my HDMI and VGA cables running FROM my projector. 1. Are those the only 2 cables I need running FROM my projector? 2. My projector only has 1 HDMI output so I think I'll need an HDMI switcher.....how would that work? WOuld I run my LONG cable from projector to receiver then get a switcher from my receiver to the rest of my media like playstation, cable receiver, and DVD player? So that means I need at least a 3 to 1 switcher? IM NOT SURE>>HELP! Are these the type of switchers I want? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_5_11?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=hdmi+switch&sprefix=hdmi+switch | founding member Joined: Mar 25, 2005 Posts: 2,538 |
1) Yes, if those are the only 2 video cables you're using.
2) You would run your HDMI cables from each device into the HDMI switcher. Then from the switcher to the projector you would run one HDMI cable. Then you also need to run your audio cables from each device to your receiver. If you're also hooking computer to projector, you will need a 5 port switcher. Why is the computer in the mix? By the way, you listed DVD player twice. I recommend the HDMI switchers at Monoprice.com(great company with great prices). | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 13,350 |
Does your receiver not have HDMI on it? HDMI is not an OUTPUT from your projector, it is the video feed INTO your projector. So, video goes from the PS3, to your receiver, then to your projector (if your receiver supports HDMI). Otherwise, you get a switcher, similar to what you linked to. I would recommend this one: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=5081&seq=1&format=2AV Integrated - Theater, whole house audio, and technology consultation during the build and installation process in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. | member Joined: May 2, 2010 Posts: 35 |
I think I got this! I would want a switcher like #1 in my link not like #2. My HDMI cable goes from projector to switch, but I will also need small cords from playstation to switch, receiver to switch, cable receiver to switch----so that's 3. I'm going to buy a computer that has HDMI eventually so just in case I was to stream something from my computer to the projector I can--like ESPN 3 or something. SO it sounds like I may need a 5 to 1 switcher.
Also, right now my stereo receiver DOES NOT has HDMI.....I have the same receiver that I had in college(Im 33) and can't believe that it still works, it just doesnt support HDMI(dont think it was invented yet!) Hopefully my thinking is correct here and THANKS FOR YOUR HELP MEN! | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 13,350 |
What is going from the receiver to the HDMI swither if your receiver doesn't have HDMI? That's what keeps confusing me, you keep including your receiver in the list of things you are connecting to the HDMI switcher, but then you said that your receiver doesn't have HDMI.
Your ONLY video source components are your PS3 and your cable box. You have a requirement for a third source of a PC at a future date.
SO, your setup should be:
AUDIO PATH: Cable box -> Receiver (use digital audio connection) PS3 -> Receiver (use digital audio connection) (future) - PC -> Receiver (use digital if possible)
Receiver - Speakers/Subwoofer
VIDEO PATH: Cable box -> HDMI Switcher (HDMI cable) PS3 -> HDMI Switcher (HDMI cable)
HDMI Switcher -> Projector (HDMI cable)
The switcher I linked to in my prior post gave you the proper switcher to get, with an IR remote with it. Also, you can pick up all your cables from there and they have some excellent product.
