I would like to buy an HD DVD player, but not all movies are available in that format. I bought a cheap Magnavox for $35. But want to get the Phillips for $40 because it plays burned movies (Divx)

HD DVD is dead - the only company actively producing HD DVD players is LG at the momment. Warner is the only major studio releasing titles on the HD DVD format, and they are stopping production in about a month.

Blu-ray is the format of the future for HD at this time, but I would wait until this holiday season to see what's out there, or I would get a PS3.

a little more detail/info in your posts would be helpful. The prices and brands of players you're describing sound more like regular dvd players that maybe upconvert and not hddvd players. If you want help in a post maybe your description/title of the post could be better. the topic HD movies will be obsolete almost seems unrelated to your actual post. Did you want help with something?

Yes all technology will eventually be obsolete. HDDVD is pretty much dead and Blueray will be the newest best thing for now. But are you looking for a Blueray player or just a good dvd player/upconverter? Or are you just trying to start a discussion on technology in general?
