Let my start by saying I'm VERY inexperienced in this field and I've been reading this site and several others for days; however, I'm still clueless on what I need to buy. Also, I see A LOT of posts that say go sample the speakers myself; however, I live in a VERY rural area and there aren't many places to audition this type of equipment.

I want to set up a 7.1 HT in my 22x20x8 basement. I'm considering an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB Projector for movies, Xbox 360, and Wii. I'm also considering a Onkyo 805, because it seems like it will give me all the connections I need to hook up my Xbox and Wii. Now I'm having a lot of trouble deciding which speakers to get. I have a 10 year old Velodine Sub that still seems to put out A LOT of deep bass. I need advice on fronts, sides, and rears. Ideally, I'd like to stay below $1,500. Can anyone offer advice???

Thanks in advance.....

It is hard to give advice on something that everyone has a different taste for. Some people love Bose and most audiophiles do not like them for the price. Definitive, Klipsch and Paradigm make great speakers. you should be able to find a dealer near you from one of their websites. 7.1 is so new you will not find many movies that support it. I think only some blue ray at this time. I would go with the 7.1 reciever and skip the two side speakers for now unless you really want them. Just get the fronts, center and rear. Down the road when 7.1 is more available you can purchase two extra speakers. Plus it will free up a little more money to get better speakers now and you can save a bit for the other two.

When I was younger excessive bass was all I appreciated. When I moved into a townhome the large tower speakers with the huge 12" drivers were not going to fit in my dinky livingroom.

I dropped $1300 on a Bose Accoustimass 16 series (not the one at Best Buy, etc. with the crappy sub). Now I really apprecite the claity and most importantly the seperation with games (COD4, Halo, R6v and movies.) The 6 speakers can be wall mounted and look great while the sub is hidden, has 3 drivers and is insanely deep and powerful but won't cloud the talking or other sound. The caviot with Bose (or so I've read) is in the midrange. I rarely listen to music in my theatre room, but if I did I'm sure there are better speakers to get a more even range, but I am not a true audiophile (can't afford it) and to me the Bose system sounds great. The wiring is a little more tricky, as the receiver wires to the sub and from the sub you go to all 5 or 6 satellite speakers but I would highly recommend it.

The only problem with the Bose is the fact that he already has a different reciever in mind.
You would be supprised at how much speaker you can get for $1,500
if you already have a sub.
I purchased a Klipch 5.1 system for 1,700 including the sub and a Marantz reciever and the sound is incredible, and it was also cheaper than at the big box store for a comparable system. Fortunately there is a specialty shop a few miles from my house and I was able listen to a few different systems. I would highly recommend you go somewhere and listen for yourself.
