For over two years I have been happy with my Mitsubishi XD300U projector used in a home theater. Recently I am noticing a thin horizontal line on the screen that starts at the bottom and takes about ten seconds to move to the top of the screen after which it repeats over and over. This happens on both video 1 and 2 inputs and have I have not changed any cables, or input sources. Any suggestions or remedy would be appreciated. It's most likely an electrical problem. This is usually caused by a ground loop between two different outlets. Most commonly, it starts when you have added a signal cable from a source on a different breaker, or have two devices from different breakers grounding together. For example, you may have a VGA cable coming from a computer on one outlet, and the projector on another outlet, and there may be a ground loop between the two. Or a computer on one outlet and a satellite receiver on another. The reason I mention the computer is because VGA cables carry ground.
The quick solution may be to figure out what you recently added that is causing the ground loop. The real solution may be to call an electrician and fix the problem at the source.

Thanks for reply Harley. Might a new cable box provided by my cable provider cause this? How about a new cordless phone in the home. These are changes I made in the past several weeks. I will do some experimenting in the next several days. Cyklopps | --- Advertisement ---

If you unplug the cable box from the electrical outlet, does the line go away? If so, that's likely to be where the problem is coming from. How is the cable box connected to the projector? HDMI or DVI could carry ground from the cable box to the projector. Also, if you upgraded your cable service recently, the cable company could have caused a ground loop in the RF cable into your house. Unhooking the cable input from the cable box could help diagnose it. |
