I've had a Hitachi 50V500A projection LCD for about 4 years. I've noticed over the past year (or longer) that a pink hazy translucent oval shaped discoloration is appearing in the center of the screen. It's not extremely noticiable when wathcing bright shows or when there is a lot of ambient light in the room, but is very noticeable when watching at night or with darker shows (or if there's no video input). In fact, it starting to wash out the picture itself. There are no other problems with the TV other than that. I've tried adjusting the color settings and can't seem to have any impact on the pink. I wondered if this might be just part of the LCD or projection TV technology, but recently bought a Toshiba LCD and it's jet black when there's no video input. I haven't been able to find anything on line so I'm hoping someone has some ideas. Thanks! [Edited by jmeeko on Jun 24, 2007 at 9:48:23 AM] | member Joined: Mar 8, 2007 Posts: 60 |
LCD optical block needs to be serviced or replaced "$$$xpensive" if no extended warranty.

I have a 60V500 that's about the same vintage 3.5 years old with the exact same problem- Red oval wash across center of image... Do we detect a trend? The question for Geek is this-- With good mechanical/electronic skills is this a part replacement I can tackle myself? Thanks for any help you can offer. | member Joined: Mar 8, 2007 Posts: 60 |
Replacing the Optical Engine will only solve the problem, if you can get the 3 LCD Plates from the manufacturer or any used or broken set, will solve the issue but it is not easy to replace, if you have good mechanical background and have patience, yes you can replace these LCD Plates, time consuming.
Well these LCDS are all aging after 3 years and all of them have the same or similar issue........I know Sony has so many issues, now its Hitachi......good luck .......
