Hi all, first post here on Big Screen. I just bought a Lightware VP800+ and when I got it home, I found out that it uses a non-standard VGA connector input! I contacted PLUS (who now owns Lightware) and they do have the adapter for sale ( https://store.buyplusdirect.com/buycategory.asp?categoryid=39) but they want $19 dollars for it plus $6 shipping ... $25 is way too much money for me right now. Any chance somebody here on the forums has this projector (or a similar one) that uses this cable? If so, is it possible that somebody could give me a quick pinout of the cable? Or maybe somebody knows where to find this information already? I've already got the connectors and plenty of cable, seems like a much cheaper solution for me. Thanks! | member Joined: Jan 26, 2007 Posts: 3 |
Well, another forum pointed me towards www.pinouts.ru I found the pinout for the standard 15pin VGA that I'll need ( http://pinouts.ru/Video/VGA15_pinout.shtml), but I have no clue what the large 15pin connector is on the back of the projector. My friend seems to think it might be a Mac VGA port: http://pinouts.ru/Video/maclcvideo_pinout.shtmlIf it is a Mac VGA port, might this work? http://www.pccables.com/70023.htmAnybody know? Also, one more question to throw out there. Looking at other picture of the projector, it seems mine is missing a piece. I've attached a few pictures to show what I'm talking about. Two are pictures I found on the net that show the missing lense circled in red. The third picture is of my projector showing that this lense isn't present on mine. Anyone know what that piece does? Do I need it? Can I buy or make one? Thanks for the help everyone!

dabn, i have the same problem with monitor cable to vp800. Did you figure out the pinouts? If this is special pinout scheme, then i guess the only way is to get the original cable; unless somebody has figured out -- to many possible combinations...
And yes, you do need the lens. It looks like aspheric lens, I do not know the focal length, but you might try buying one from Edmund Optics, just get the right diameter. I might try one of their aspheric condenser lenses, cost is around $30. In no way the projector will work without this lens, too weak light if unfocused. The idea is that bulb filament is close to focus of this lens; the convex part of the lens points away from the bulb, while the flat faces the bulb. As to the focal length, measure the distance from filament to the flat; then add about half of the max. lens thickness. I would roughly guess that F is somewhere between 30 and 50 mm (just a guess). If F is mistaken, you will see nonuniformly lit screen. The best is to get the original lens.
Also, I disassembeled the optics completely, cleaned it including LCD panel, and made great improvement in contrast. It took about 2h. | --- Advertisement ---

HI there,
I have a cable for the VP800 Plus. Mine takes the standard VP800 cable (grey one).
I have the pinout diagram for the VP800. If I can get someone to make a cable for me based on that diagram, I will happily give up the cable I have without altering it.
Anyone got any leads on who can make a VGA cable from a pinout diagram?
