drivers? you should just need to use a vga cable and hook one end to your vga out of your laptop and the other end to your projector. make sure you have your laptop display resolution set to 800x600, and make sure your projectors input is set to vga/rgb.
would you mind if i asked how much you paid for the projector? its resolution, contrast, lamp life, lumens...etc as way below what i would consider a usable projector. if you're just using it for presentations then it would be ok i guess.

Hi

I bought it from Ebay from a Police Auction seller,

Price was £41 , I have XP on my laptop, but it doesn't recognise the projector. I have set my laptop resolution to 800x600 , I can't seem to get the projector menu up

perhaps you have to set your laptop to display through the vga output? this could be by drivers for your onboard video card, or it could be something that needs set in the bios.

jarrod1937 is right you do not have your laptop set up to output via VGA, consult your laptop owners manual for instructions. This reviewer is using his projector in 800x600 mode:

Interesting old projector with 6.4" LCD panels and a 400W bulb that produces 300 ANSI! Apparently the halogen bulbs cost around $5 but only last 25-40 hours. Should keep your room toasty while watching movies at night.
My first front projector - a Kloss Novabeam 100 (1986).
