Outdoor video walls, such as those you see in Times Square in NYC are not inexpensive, but they are designed for their purpose and are pretty darn cool.

Basically, they are made up of a bunch of smaller LED blocks. About two feet by two feet and you just put them together until you get the size you desire. Then, you run the video/etc. through their system and are good to go.

While somewhat costly, they are weatherproof and reliable and designed for the task you want them for. There are basically no plasmas, LCDs or, projection systems that can compete outdoors in any realistic manner.

I am looking for a screen to use outdoors as a billboard/screen (exterior wall mounted). I am hoping to get some pointers on what is a practical solution. Size would be approx 2m*3m (6.6*10ft) area, would need to be visible in day from up to 40m (235ft) away. Cost, software and exposure (vandalism etc) are also issues of consideration.

I have seen multi screen displays i.e. 6 –9 screen running split screen graphic software that looked good. Any comments on what solution or combinations work at a reasonable cost?

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to say, that when the CHEAP Chinese importer comes to a forum and says that it'll be $60,000 - then that IS the cheap solution.

Do some homework on this and let us know if you find something out that is different, but I have no belief that this is realistic under $100,000 for a fully installed quality product, or $50,000 for a knockoff junk product that will be far less satisfactory.

I've done a bit of research on this, but not much. Price has been pretty consistent.

A P8 over to P10 outdoor led display would be a conventional solution. But the brightness needs to up to 5,000 CD / ?, or the audience can not see the pictures.

And don't forget the waterproof function is also an important factor we need to consider when choosing an outdoor led display.

Hope it's useful for you.
