I have my Sanyo mounted below ceiling and the fan from unit is loud. I read somewhere you can us some type of sound dampening to correct this. Anyone know what this would be or what can be done around the unit to correct some of the sound??Paul | founding member Joined: Jan 29, 2002 Posts: 147 |
Usually, what you're hearing is the sound of the fan reflecting off of nearby hard/reflective surfaces... ceiling, walls, etc. So, something that can really help, without impacting all-important air flow for cooling, is some kind of "sound treatment" on the offending reflective surfaces. What I used in my setup, and I found to be the most cost-effective, is affixing noise-dampening foam. You can find a range of styles and thickness of low-cost, adhesive-backed foam squares at musiciansfriend.com They sure helped quiet things down in my HT. Sometimes fans can be rather annoying, but this is a slightly older unit in projector terms. Some people can't deal with it while others simply don't care. Personally I can deal with that a great deal more than those old 16mm projectors that were around in the old days with that horrible repeating clicking noise they made. Digital projectors have come a long way, but they are not perfected yet. Maybe the fan in your unit is xtra special loud, but the one in the Infocus 4805 was considered pretty loud but it still didn't trouble me too much, as long as it doesn't sound like a hair dryer or lawn mower, I can deal with it.
