Tallman, do you have a digital camera to show some screen shots and are you going to be using cable or satellite for hi-def tv? Severtson 106" screen, pt ae900u, oppo 97 dvd player. | founding member Joined: Mar 25, 2005 Posts: 62 |
This is second hand-info, so I apologize if it's not correct... I read somewhere (here or another forum) that Saving Private Ryan was intentionally "grainy" and not a good sample for determining projector quality. Here's a link to an article I just found via google: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120815/dvd | --- Advertisement ---

My first impression at B&H photo seeing the side by side comparison was that the Z4 was much sharper and vivid than the pan900. After playing with both units and adjusting the focus on the panny the difference was not that great. At times during the comparison I felt the panny was more pleasing to watch. I stepped away and returned 30 minutes later and again I thought the z4 was the sharper, clearer and more vivid of all the units projected on the wall. I will most likely buy the z4, but first I’ll wait for a review of the Optima DH72. | member Joined: Jan 30, 2006 Posts: 17 |
Sure I've got a digital camera, but I'm not sure how I would post a picture.
The picture is great and I'm happy with my choice. Even blown up to the point where one is 0.7 times the width of the screen, there is no SDE and the picture looks pretty solid. I don't actually watch anything with the picture that big, but it is kind of neat to expand it to that size to impress people.
As I said before, I'm connecting my Neodigits DVD player with composite connections and have in fact returned my hundred dollar HDMI cable without even openning it. I'm very happy with the picture. The only problem is that sometimes when displaying the color black some detail gets swallowed up. I suspect this is a limitation due to me only projecting on a white wall. I'm going to look into reflective paint and also think about getting a screen. I'll probably get a screen, but it is kind nice having just a blank wall. Also, it will take me a little while to figure out the size I want (though it will probably be 82" diagonal) and also how high I want to mount it. The DVD player produces a better picture than my Xbox which is running through an S-Video connection. But frankly the Xbox picture is adequate.
I'm also happy to report that the projector is in fact the "babe magnet" that I suspected it would be. While explaining it to a sexy blond over lunch yesterday, she just wasn't getting how it would be set up and work or what the picture would look like. So I said, you should come over and see it. Her response was well what about tonight. I can tell you it doesn't hurt that the viewing has to be done in a darkened room. And I've found that candle light is a nice source of limited light while viewing. Anyway, score one for the projector and it had only been three days as of last night. | --- Advertisement ---

Is it fair to compare the Runco CL-410/420 to this series of projectors? I too was originally thinking about the San and the Panny, but after seeing the Runco at my local home theater. Also, it had been hammered into my head how much DLP is. But I'm hoping some of you new Panny/Sammy owners can convince me otherwise before I dive in and make a $$$ purchase.
Thanks in advance. |
