Is dvd 3:2 pulldown necessary for dlp / lcd projectors | founding member Joined: Mar 30, 2005 Posts: 41 |
no, u dont need 3:2 DVD pull down. pull down means it goes back to 24 pic/seconds.
if your projectoe accept prog scan, go with a progressive DVD player and component cable. if you can find a 3:2 pull down player, go for it... | founding member Joined: Mar 30, 2005 Posts: 50 |
You absolutely need 3:2 pulldown. I believe it's more correctly known as "reverse 3:2 pulldown". Most commercial movies are encoded onto DVD in their natve 24fps. This feature converts it to 29.97fps by creating the missing frames.
Without 3:2 pulldown, you'll get what's known as "judder" in the image, because the display will just duplicate the frame before the "missing" frame to fill in the blank spot.
Most hi-res displays and most DVD players include it now, but it's good to be sure. Also, it might be beneficial to experiment with turning that feature off in either the source or display, as only one device needs to perform that function. | founding member Joined: Mar 26, 2005 Posts: 18 |
OK, I want to chime in with a question. I'm using a Panasonic S97 single disc DVD player with HDMI. It claims it upconverts (and can be set to up convert in three different ways). The 4805 also upconverts. Which one is actually working? Which one 'wins?' And while I'm at it, what's Enhanced HDMI? | founding member Joined: Mar 27, 2005 Posts: 459 |
I am no expert buy I believe when you plug in a HDMI cable it bypass the internal scaler and allows your external total control. |
