I am half way through the construction of my 23'x14' home theater and really trying to make up my mind on a projector. So far I have not been impressed with pjs I've seen until today. The local AV shop hooked up a HC3000, right out of the box, and I was really impressed with it. I was really wanting to see the AE900 and the Z4, but I am guessing they wont match the HC3000.

Has anyone else seen the HC3000 or compared it to the top LCDs for the $3K price range? Anyone know of a competitor to this model in DLP?

Thanks

Fanof7384 you should have a look at the recent comparison between the Optoma H79 and Sanyo Z4 that Projector Central did. The Sanyo Z4 ($2,200) although a LCD projector was more than favourable in comparison to the H79 DC3 DLP projector. So I would be giving serious consideration to the Z4 if I was buying right now.

I have 4 magazines a month sent to me, plus I have lately purchased several other magazines, and a "Home Theater For Dummys". I have researched every top 10 projector for the last 3 months. Before I found this forum, I had too many questions. If I were to purchase today, I would buy the Pany900! I have gone back and forth with LCD vs. DLP. The best "by far" I have seen (I live in Gurnee, IL. by 6-Flags) Going to 5 different stores, I saw a Yamaha 510, its an LCD projector that goes for $4500.00 at Tweeter. It was projecting on a Stewert Grayhawk tentioned electric 106" screen. Using a P.S.DVD player it was awesome. I also talked to 2 diff. salesmen at Tweeter that by far Panasonic is in its price range, the best for the buck! Quality and Consistancy. Buy the Pansonic PT-900U from an authorized dealer, and get a good extended warranty. IN WRITTING. Next, buy the Severtson 106" perm wall in H.C.Gray. Its $800 to your door, and the Quality and reviews sound Great!

I have yet to be able to find a dealer or store where I could demo either the Z4 or AE900. I even called Panasonic and tried to locate a local dealer but that was a scary experience, I got transfered to several diffrent numbers and was on hold numerous times. In all, I wasted about 35 minutes and eneded up not getting any info. That didnt make me feel to comfortable with the buying the Pany. I must say though, I own a lot of Panasonic stuff and have been really happy with them, just bought the 37" Plasma lastnight in fact, but pretty concerned about the projector support as I have read more than a few negative posts about Pany PJs.

I am going to go back to the dealer I saw the HC3000 after he gets it calibrated and I will try to do a better review. I am in no way a pro at projectors as this is my first purchase to be, but I am very particular about picture, hopefully I can help a few people out that are thinking about this PJ.

Well I was able to rule out the Benq7700 today, in fact even the $10K big Brother to that was not that impressive either. The 7700 had a lot of problems with motion and I saw lots of jagies. I will be suprised if the next review of the HC3000 isnt quite awesome, cause so far, thats what I think of it as I compare it to other stuff on the market thats even over $10K.

I also had an installer tell me that he is anxious to get them in stock as he plans to carry them. His opinion was that it is by far the best for the buck and even for things up to double its price. No, I am not a Mits dealer hehe. I am just very impressed with this thing. Hope to get some more opinions on this thing, anyone out there?
