Here is a question about seating that I have not seen addressed at all (but my wife says I'm half blind).
After doing much research here and other areas, I've decided on a Optima H78DC3 projector and a 119" DA-lite HCCV screen. Using the projection calculator throw is 18 feet which is no problem, and recommended seating distance is minimum 12'.
Question-If I move my 1st row of seats up to 9-10' will there be any known issues. Specifically will the projected image catch the tops of peoples heads?

Projectors will catch the tops of people's heads very rarely in a typical setup. It really depends on how low the projector is mounted and how high the seats are sitting... and how tall the people are.

It is not easy, per se, but isn't necessarily difficult to determine the maximum height before you are clipping someone's head.

Say, the projector is 8 feet off the ground and the bottom of the screen is 3 feet off the ground. That means that every foot you are further away from the screen the bottom of the image is 3 and 1/3 inches higher. At about 9 feet, you are talking about a full foot and a half higher, or 5.5 feet.

That's pretty darn high for a seated person and should not present a problem.

Thanks AV_Integrated, great info as usual. I'll double check the height using your figures, but from what you've pointed out I think I have nothing to worry about.
