I am looking to upgrade my Panasonic PT-AE4000U and was considering the 7000U. A friend recommended looking at the Epson 5010 which I am unfamiliar with. I have done some research and they seem very similar both in pricing and specifications. Any experience or insight as to which performs best?

It's not a cut and dry answer. Both are very capable projectors and Epson makes the chips which are used in both projectors. The differences are minor between them. If you are in a truly dark and proper home theater environment, then the JVC RS45 is also an excellent choice which should be considered.

The reviews here and at ProjectorReviews.com compare the 7000 and 5010 and pretty much sum up the differences. The choice is still up to you.
