Looking for help in selecting the best projector for a home theater. This projector will be used for viewing mostly DVDs, and some XBOX, PS2 use. I have a 12 x 20 room that I can control the ambient light. Will mount a fixed screen with a 92” diagonal image. I would like to keep the projector cost to a maximum of $3000. Need help very anal on obtaining a high quality image.

Thank you

i'm looking at the Mitsu HC3, about $1000, very bright and good looking picture, would look great with the game stations. I've had an x1 for a few years and can say DLP looks awesome but the LCD technology has come a long way. I think, though, that since you can control the light, the DLP will give the best image quality with it's inherent excellent contrast.

Might I suggest that you pick up the HD-output pack for your xbox. It runs about $20 and allows the xbox to output to 480p, 720p or 1080i rather than solely in 480i.

A note, though: the output varies depending on what the game will support (for example, Halo 2 supports 480p output, but nothing higher). Some games will look better than others.

About the projector, if you really have $3,000 to spend, I'd go with the Panny AE700 or Sanyo Z3 (well under $3K), or the Sharp Z2000 (a little over $3K) if you'd prefer DLP. All are excellent products which will give you the highest quality image for your dollar.

Best of luck.

Thanks to you both for your input. I have the panny AE700 at the top of my list but am concern about the VB, if it shows up it would drive me nuts.

I'm running the AE700u and 92" Da-lite Da-Snap and love the whole setup whether I'm watching DVD, Sat or digital pictures from my Roku.

With about 200 hours on the unit so far I've seen no VB.

When I was researching projectors, I was quite concerned about a unit that would handle some ambient lite and still get me a great picture. I was plesantly suprised to see how crisp the picture is and how quiet the unit is since it's mounted right above my couch. No need for DLP with an LCD project like the AE700.

You can't go wrong with this unit!
