I've found many posts on the bulb flicker problem that occurs with the Panasonic PT-AE1000 projector around 500 hours. I too experienced an overall bulb flicker from 420 hours to about 460 hours, and I know what this looks like and how to help it go away.

Now I'm up around 570 hours, and a different flicker is occurring... with some strange symptoms that make me wonder if it's even bulb related.

1. Seems to flicker more often when there are bright or white portions of the frame.

2. Flickers MUCH more often (unwatchably so) with dynamic iris turned "on"... although it will still flicker a great deal when the dynamic iris is turned off

3. Sometimes, ONLY the bright portions of the frame flicker, leaving the lower gray scale areas totally stable.

When I had the bulb flicker previously, the whole frame flickered regardless of the brightness of the content on the screen. Could this be an LCD problem?

I have tried to limit the variables by hooking up an entirely different blu-ray player through an entirely different HDMI cable into an entirely different HDMI port on the projector (since there are two of them). Still saw the flicker.

Any ideas or insights? Thanks in advance.

You can try switching the bulb to "High" power for a couple hours and see if it helps. I've read that this helps with other projector models.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've been thru "normal" bulb flicker and have dealt with it by switching bulb modes. Tried in this case too, but it makes no difference. I always have the bulb on "high".

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this strange kind of flicker that seems worse with the dynamic iris "on" and definitely manifests during brighter scenes and sometimes only over white areas of the frame. Does this still sound "bulb-related"?? It doesn't to me, but I don't know how the heck to diagnose it.

I have a Panasonic PT-AE1000U that needs a new bulb. There seems to be a lot of bulb 'scams' out there. Who originally manufactured these bulbs? I don't want to spend the $450 Panasonic is asking for to replace the bulb, and I understand the 'bare' bulb can be replaced fairly easily, and for a lot less cash. Where do you find these?
