Hi everyone!

I am having some trouble with my Optoma ES522 projector. I bought it from the Internet about 3 months ago. The projector was brand new with the warranty and optoma seal on the box.

Recently, it has been acting up. When turning it on, the light on the top of the projector flashes three times pauses then flashes three times again, while making a funny whirr whirr whirr noise and will not start. When we unplugged it waited a little and then tried again it would work. However, every time we shut off the projector since it has been acting up it does this same thing.

Now, the projector will not turn on at all. When we plug it in and turn it on, it makes a loud alarm kind of sound. The bulb does not turn on but the fans are running. The alarm sound rings about 10 times and then stops while the fan continues to run.

What is going on with my projector? I have no proof of purchase because I bought it from the Internet so it is not covered under warranty!

Hope someone can help me. Thanks

There are 3 "lights" on top of the projector. Page 57 of the manual will tell you what they mean. If you didn't get the manual when you bought the projector,

Why do you not have a warranty just because you bought it off the 'net? How did you pay for it? There has to be a "paper trail" to establish your warranty. Because you may have a serious issue with the projector that would be expensive to repair.

Not sure where you bought from, but Optoma does not specifically exclude online sales. They do say that certain vendors are unauthorized and that warranty work may not be permitted.

That is a list of the unauthorized dealers and you will want to compare who you bought from to that list.

This sounds very much like warranty work to me.

That's good information. I was unaware they had such a list.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. It definitely helped me out a lot.

We actually fixed the projector ourselves After the first post which told me to look in the manual, I thought it had something to do with the lamp door sensor? So I took the projector apart and cleaned out a small net piece on the top on the lamp. This piece of net had a thick layer of dust on it. Thought that may cure my projector illness but it did not. Instead we counted the blinking lights again and they were noticeably flashing 9 times and then stopping then 9 times again. In the manual it states this was a color wheel error. So immediately we thought we were screwed. However, determined to get it fixed, we took it apart again and this time investigated the color wheel.

The color wheel itself was not broken or shattered in any way. So I knew it must of been something else maybe around it. With a couple q tips and handheld flashlight , I cleaned in and around the projector. Closed it all up, turned it on with the remote and voila!! Brand new again

Thanks again for everyones help though. And if anyone is having a similar problem, I hope this helps.
