Anyone care to recommend an entry level ($900 or less) HD projector for a new theater room?
I purchased a Mitsubishi HC1600 a few weeks ago from PowerSellerNYC but it never arrived and they seem to have no idea where it is or even who they shipped with. I think it's time to give up on them and order from someone else but everyone is sold out of the HC1600s now. This got me looking at some of the other options and now I'm just confused. This is the scenario:
- New dedicated theater room with good light control. No windows and only one exterior door with a small portal-type window.
- Overhead lights are recessed with dimmers.
- Room size is 24' x 18'
- Projector will be ceiling mounted with 13.5' between the projector and the screen.
- Enough room for up to 120" screen on the wall. I plan to try painting the screen with Behr Silverscreen but if that doesn't work I'll purchase a fixed 80-100" screen.
- Projector will primarily be used for movies and television but we'll also have a Wii connected and a vga input for occasional laptop connection.
- Projector mount location is wired with HDMI, Component and VGA cables.
- I have kids. They break stuff. Anything weak will perish.
Any recommendations considering this scenario? I'm looking at the Optoma HD65 now but the review here seems to indicate it might not be the best option for a ceiling mount in a dedicated room. Is there anything else in this price range that I should consider?

The Optoma HD20 is a great 1080p entry level offerring which should make you very happy for years to come. The projector itself, if you are worried about it getting hit, probably should have a cage or box put around it. You can build a box yourself (FULLY VENTED!) or buy a cage from a company like ChiefMfg.com AV Integrated - Theater, whole house audio, and technology consultation during the build and installation process in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. | --- Advertisement ---
