Hey guys, new to home theater and I am kind of lost.
I am having a skipping issue with my current bluray player. The image will occasionally skip frames and I am guessing that it is my HDMI cable.
I have a Sharp DT-510 projector hooked up to the Sony BDP-S350 with a cheap Dynex HDMI cable so I am looking to upgrade. I asked the guys at best buy and they think the skipping is because I currently have a 60Hz HDMI cable and I should have atleast a 120Hz.
I tried checking the specs online for the projector and bluray player but I could not find any information on what Hz they support. I am a little confused as to exactly what this rating means and how it applies to the projector and bluray player. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 6,752 |
You are being suckered by the prevalent stupidity of the Best Buy employee and the marketing of the scam artists from Monster Cable. It is POSSIBLE it is your cable, but a well made cable is a well made cable and ratings typically mean diddly beyond the build construction quality. Get a cable from these guys - they rock! http://www.monoprice.comAV Integrated - Theater, whole house audio, and technology consultation during the build and installation process in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. | --- Advertisement ---

Is the Hz rating one of those ratings that really aren't important? I'm not sure what to look for in a good HDMI cable. | moderator Joined: Mar 28, 2005 Posts: 6,752 |

There is no such thing as hz rating - it's bull... made up by Monster cable to scam you out of money. A well built cable is a well built cable. Also consider: The BEST source on the market right now which can be accepted by many, but not all, displays, is 1080p, at 60hz. How long of a cable do you need? I'm using this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042501&p_id=5403&seq=1&format=2With a couple of pre-fab cables... http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10232Note - I am using CAT-6 cables! With my PS3, being sent to my basement (30') then sent back up to my projector and to my plasma display. It's about an 80'+ run of cabling with 1080p/24 content and it works without problem. I've used 1080p/60 as well, and I didn't have an issue except my projector accepts 1080p/60 and my plasma does not, so I had to scale back to 1080i/60 and 1080p/24. Both of which work fine. A 30 foot cable would be more than enough.
I don't really understand the differences between the HDMI cables and Cat-6. |
