It would be really helpful to start reporting reliability data on projectors. Projector Central is a great resource for performance but reliability is information that can only be gathered over time and with the cooperation of the users who rely on this site for advice and research.

I think it would be a great service to PC's members and visitors to begin reporting known problems and problems reported by owners.

I just had my Panasonic AE700U fail after four+ years of use. It sounds like it is a the infamous polarizer issue.

The question is, "Has Panasonic addressed this in later versions?"

Is this going to be an issue with all their projectors?

Panasonic obviously does not care and if you add in lamp costs, a projector may be a VERY expensive display solution that may not be worth making.

And why would I want to spend my money with Panasonic again if they do not wish to acknowledge this problem and help its customers?

Yes, PC has reported on some great performing projectors for Panasonic but if you are going to spend $2000+ on a projector and only get four years of use, can PC in good consciousness continue to ignore reporting reliablity information, as well?

PC is probably one of the few sites that can answer these questions and approach Panasonic for answers.

I eagerly await a response from PC.

Polarizer burn is a problem with most, if not all, LCD projectors. I've replaced polarizers on NEC projectors several times. And if you search this and other forums, you'll find reports of this nature from a variety of manufacturers. So it isn't a "Panasonic" issue, but a design issue, common to just about every LCD projector made.

Some of the projectors are used extensively, some are not kept clean. Both conditions contribute to heat build-up, but some have been run normally and still experienced it.

So to rail against one manufacturer is a bit misplaced, they're all susceptible. Some swear by DLP projectors for that and other reasons, but DLPs have their own issues. Many have experienced color wheel or light tunnel failure. Again, no manufacturer stands out as the only one to have this.

after almost 15 years of renting projectors i can say that are some brands that are more reliable. We bought 12 units of Panasonic and all of then showed lamp problems. After 900 hours of use we had to stop renting because the lamp was too weak.We had a lot of problems with Sony EX4 .Today i can say that i can really trust in NEC,Sanyo,Epson,Sharp .With this brands we had a just a few problems.
