Topic: Image Brightness Calculator AE900u question

I bought a used AE900u for $400 to replace my Infocus IN72. I was thinking that since AE900u has 1100 lumens compated to IN72's 900 that it would be brighter. Plus its 720p so the image will we awesome. And the reviews here and everywhere on the web say that the 900u is one heck of a great projector. So, I made the plunge and bought it. I hooked it up and I was really disappointed in the image brightness. The image is significantly darker then the IN72... It's night and day difference. So, I started panicking. Thinking I bought a lemon. Someone pointed to the throw distance as being the issue and sure enough, the closer I get the better it is. So, I went the Calculator in projector central. It verified my observations. With all things equal (The, screen size, the throw distance, etc.) the IN72's image brightness calculations are at least twice as much as the AE900u's. So the question I have is why and is there anything I can do to help increase the brightness of the projector (I am not a videophile, so reduce the image quality a little to get brightness is fine.) I assume the answer is get a higher gain screen, but I am hoping that there is a setting that will just double the output and I will be happy Thank you | member Joined: Jun 11, 2007 Posts: 1,230 |
As posted in the other forum, replace your lamp. The lamps do NOT maintain the same level of brightness throughout their life. You can expect to be at considerably less than 50% at when the lamp has reached its rated life. And you are PAST that. Replace the lamp, you will see a HUGE difference. You earned two lessons. Never buy used and never trust lumen specs. Now you have to spend $300 on a new lamp and you could have gotten a much better new projector for $700 to begin with. [Edited by gwlaw99 on May 10, 2009 at 9:33:26 AM] | member Joined: May 10, 2009 Posts: 2 |
Ya, I did learn a lesson. I will see if the person will take it back. Yes, I just saw the response on another forum to my question also. So, I understand that my issue may be Lamp related. But what I am not understanding is the Projector central calculator. It is stating the image brightness which is significantly lower on ae900u vs infocus in72. I assume the calculator take the published specs and does some voodoo to come up with Image brightness in FLs. With my configuration, the calc. say I will get something like 36FLs with my in72 versus something like 16FLs for the AE900u. So, I understand lamp life is likely my issue but why is the calc state such a big difference in FLs? Does this question make sense or am I nutz, or both thank you [Edited by shaha90 on May 10, 2009 at 12:11:55 PM] | --- Advertisement ---
