Help...all of a sudden my 60' Philips rear projection TV has curvy red lines and double imaging at the bottom of the screen. Tried to adjust the convergence controls but it did not fix it. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure you are going to get that level of technical help here. It would be at least a bit helpful if you could provide a model number for your TV, so we all have some idea of what type of display it is... but generally, when you see a major issue like this, it is a significant problem, requiring electronics replacements, and costing at least $500 or more to fix. I take it from your problem that this is a CRT RPTV. If going through the convergence procedures, which takes you through multiple points in the image to converge the lines, did not accomplish anything, then you have one or more failures in the electronics. Either in the convergence boards or elsewhere. I realize I'm little vague here, it's been a long time since I've worked on a CRT unit and each one is different. How old is this unit and do you have a model #? If you don't know how old it is, look for the serial# sticker, it will have the date of manufacture. Thanks for the replies. The TV is a Philips, model #60PP9202. It's 4 years old.
Adjusting the convergence did not solve the problem. I have discovered that if I leave the tv on for a while to let it warm up & then I turn it off & on a few times, the curvy red lines disappear and the picture is fine. I don't know if I'm doing more damage by doing this. | --- Advertisement ---

It sounds like a convergence IC is flaky. There are several references for repairing it yourself if you feel capable. It does involve opening the set up and using a soldering iron on very sensitive components. If you want to attempt it, here a couple of places to visit... http://techghetto.com/tv-repair/http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=28929Good luck. | Quote (lastlooper on Sep 25, 2008 3:25:21 PM): Thanks for the replies.
