Well, let's see. I bought a Panasonic AE700 from Visual Apex for $1999 with free shipping. Although they listed the projector for $2199, it wasn't hard to get them to take a $200 off the price ("can you give me a discount?", "sure, how about $1999?"). Apparently there's a mail in rebate now . . . I bought mine in February, so I don't qualify for the rebate. But I wonder if Visual Apex would sell the projector for $1999 AND still qualify for a $200 rebate. Man that would be an outstanding value!

Ebay is another good source for projectors, although you need to be careful and only deal with reputable dealers with high feedback.

My personal system is a Sony VPL-400Q. It was pretty much the projector that started the whole affordable home theater craze that we are now enjoying. It's native 16:9, its HDTV compatable, and even though it doesn't have the specs of the new stuff, the picture is still very impressive and satisfying. I got it on Ebay for $350 bucks, and it only had a total of 14hrs of use. I couldn't be happier. My THX receiver and speakers came out to less than $1500, and a 133" diagonal Da-lite screen was $400 bucks. Those products were all factory new. My whole system cost me less than $2500, and I couldn't be happier about it.

There are huge deals to be had out there if you do some research. Don't be afraid to buy on Ebay, and definitely ask for addition deals. You'd be surprised what some retailers will do to get your business.

WillyD,

It is a scam. I tried to buy one at the price on the website and it said there was a minimum $1999 purchase amount and to go back and purchase some more. Oh well, no such thing as a free lunch.
