Hi I finally got my 6500ub firmware upgraded and what a difference! Concert dvds are awesome; i can just enjoy the show and finally appreciate the quality of the picture without the distraction of motion blurr. Video games are also considerably better. Movie dvds are a different story as it helps with motion blurr, but you feel you are on the movie set as it is being filmed. I tried 4:4 pulldown on 4 movies and found it helped markedly but only on the movie "300" in blueray. What is 4;4 pulldown, what does it do and when do i use it? Is it like frame interpolation? |

All usefull info, thanks guys. I will call epson support on Monday. I'm surprised the store i bought it from knew nothing of this and said it's the first time anyone ever had this problem with a projector. It turns out if you make the right google search its a well known problem and apparently solution. I'll let you know the before and after difference.

Hi, thanks for your input.
Av_:
I have a 106" good quality(I think) fixed 16:9 screen with 0.8 gain.
Viewing distance: that i use is 16 feet, with 3 more at about 13 feet. The cabling is a 3 feet hdmi to the amp and a 25 feet hdmi($)to the projector.
If all goes well I'll be getting satelite reception in my theatre tomorrow, and it will be High def.
At first i found that going directly from the ps3 to the pj gave a better picture, but i had to give up surround sound and downgrade to stereo so that the ps3 could produce output on all output types, so that i could route some sound to my amp using av. Then i tried using only component connections for everything into the amp but the picture quality was less and lag was about the same or slightly less i'm not sure. I went back to hdmi and i'm not sure what i did, as the amp was already set on "though" but the picture now seems about the same as when i went directly from the ps3.
I have 300 in blueray and the fight scenes look good when the camera goes to slowmotion. I have 300 in regular dvd, i should do a comparison. We have at least 40 concert dvds and its one of the reasons for buying a pj. Stevie Wonder looks great on blueray but try getting him to stop moving his head so much, as even that gets a bit blurred.
gwlaw99: You certainly know something i don't(which is not saying much from what i know about pjs) and you give me hope. The frame interpolation was on as default on those and it was bad when i turned it on . I was surprised its on by default as all reviews i saw say it is awfull and to turn it off, and it was much better when i did. I also hope to get high speed internet to that room tomorrow and if there is an update to be had i'll get it then. How do you go about doing that, what connections, what buttons, what site?
Any input is truly appreciated.

HI ALL
To make a long story short; after research, construction time and a lot of money i finally finished my home cinema. My family and i watched our first movie; my oldest left halfway through saying he's not into projectors and the rest of us made it to the end and there is no plan for another movie night. The 6500UB is supposed to be a good projector and it is. The colours and clarity are very good, (as in the screen shots of the reviews). I did not know anything about projectors until i looked for a tv on the internet. After reading reviews I soon got bit by the projector bug. The only one i ever saw in action was the 6500ub in a store with a theatre. It looked great
(a lady singing but with little movement)! What we are having difficulty with is movement;as soon as there is moderate to high action scenes we find the picture is "blurry" and hard to watch. The kids are back on their old CRTs and 15 year old vhs tapes and i find that hard to think with. My wife says "that must be normal for projectors, its not a tv" Is it!
Before i forget thats even with the frame interpolation off. I use a ps3 and tried different movies, 2 blurays and a new hockey game which was the most satisfactory of the bunch.
What did i miss? Can you help me out? |

I am in the market for the Epson 6500ub so I started to price them out. I am in Michigan and we have an appliance chain called ABC warehouse. I asked the price on the 6500ub and was quoted a price of $2,250 + the $500 mail in rebate= $1,750 WOW! and 90 days same as cash. I am still about 4 months away from finishing my basement and I still have a lot of expenses to get it done before I get my Toy. It sucks being responsible! |
