A client of mine, short on money, is paying me by giving up some electronic equipment he has that I'm interested in (such as a fairly nice Mac setup that he no longer uses).
Among other things, he has a couple of nearly new Epson 410W ultra-short-throw projectors. He has downsized just recently (part of why he can't pay me) and only uses one of these projectors for tradeshows, so I'm considering asking for the other. I have not seen them in operation, but looking at the specs on them, I wondered about using such a thing in a kind of kid's home theater -- playing video games, watching kid's movies (which typically aren't in the dark, or of great quality anyway). Could be a fun addition to the playroom. The 410W is billed for classroom use and got a good review on Projector Central...

...although the reviewer was clearly focused on academic/business-style presentations -- as to be expected -- and did not address video quality.
Does anyone have experience with the 410W? What's the video quality like? I know that you shouldn't use a business projector for a home theater, but I'm not thinking of a big setup. Mainly something simple/crude, in an environment that would usually be moderately to brightly lit. The widescreen ultra-short-throw aspect sounds pretty cool, though the lack of digital input could be an issue. (It just has s-video, composite, and a pair of VGA inputs -- like you might expect on this sort of thing.)
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. |
