Hi,
I hope this great community can help me with this strange problem.
The setup is a regular Time Warner DVR, connected to the Optoma TX1080 via a 30 ft long HDMI cable.
We use this setup in a bar to show the World Cup. The signal comes from ESPN HD in 720p.
Everything looked great in the beginning, but when I looked at the picture again a few days after we installed it, I noticed a strange left shift of 4 or 5 white pixels, every 10 lines or so. It becomes very apparent on white letters (see photo), but is annoying on anything white on the screen. Perhaps it also affect other colors, but it's just not noticable.
I tested the setup with a DVD player, same problem, and also tested a different HDMI cable - same problem. I reset both the Time Warner box and the projector to factory default - no change.
Now I realize that 30 ft can potentially be a problem with HDMI, but I swear that the problem didn't exist in the beginning.
I don't think it can be a dirty lens since we installed the thing about 4 or 5 days before the problem appeared. When you look at the photo it clearly looks like a problem on the pixel level, and it's only white that creates trouble.
Please help!

Alright.. I sold my last projector thinking I was going to goto a twin projector setup for 3d, the ces show has given me great pause. I am not a fan of shutter glasses, but hdmi 1.4 changes everything. So I find in order to "future" proof my ht, I must wait a few more years.
I have a 120" 1.0 gain grey screen. There is some light that is not controllable..
That being said. I have been watching the tx1080 like a hawk. It just dropped to $1899 in price at Amazon. Cant beat that.
The tx1080 is a light cannon perfect to be paired in the future with a double for possible 1080p dual 3d projector applications (when using 3d you lose a lot of light.) My question being then which line of projectors is better? Vivitek or Optoma? Looking at the new Vivitek 3400 lumen projector coming next month.. I wonder other than being a new dlp what could it possibly offer that the Optoma doesn't have?
Thanks for any comments or suggestions. |

Hi all,
I am upgrading my Cannon sx6 to a 1080p projector. I have researched for a while now and have come to these 2 projectors. The Optoma tx1080 or a used Christie DS+60 for ~$1k more. The Christie has a native rez of 1400x1050 Pixels and Maximum of 2048x1536 Pixels. Does it matter that the native on the Christie is lower than the Optoma's native 1920x1080? Does anyone have info on the speed of the color wheels on these 2 pj's(ie 5x,6x)? The Christie also has a much higher contrast ratio, 5000:1 vs 2200:1. The Christie is 4 year older technology than the Optoma. Will this be extemely noticable, what would the differences be? The room has alot of ambient light. I will be using a 16:9 10' wide grey screen, the same one that I have been using with the Cannon. Is there another projector that I am overlooking with a min of 3500 lumens close to this price range?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have looked at the Optoma TX1080, but I'm very nervous about using a DLP projector. I haven't had much luck finding any decent reviews on the TX1080. Is it known for the rainbow effect? |
