When I use my Macbook Pro DVI out to my projector HDMI in (Sanyo PLV-Z60) I lose all detail in the blacks and the falloff into detailless black happens quite swiftly -- in an average situation maybe 40% of the screen is black -- in a dark scene, it's all black. This happens whether I am playing a file on the hard drive or from the laptop DVD drive.
This problem with the blacks does not occur when I play DVDs from a standalone DVD player. The problem also does not occur when I play on an external 24" monitor (also DVI-HDMI). But playing though the projector it is horrible. Useless. I have played around with brightness and contrast on the computer and the projector in every way imaginable. I get a slight improvement upping the brightness -- but then it gets milky.
Any idea how I may fix this?
Macbook Pro 2.2 ghz
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT
Sanyo Plv z60
I have the Macbook set at 1280X 720 at 60 hz. (proj. native resolution)
Any idea how I may fix this?

I didn't bother calling sanyo. I simply followed the instructions provided by the entry in the other thread. The thermal reset switch is right where the author said it would be and it was in fact tripped, so I reset it, and the unit powered up fine.
I just think it is disappointing that Sanyo would not only decide to omit this information from their manual, but what's more, they provide misleading information that whenever the "replace lamp" indicator is flashing, you need to replace your lamp as soon as possible. Rather, it should say, "When your 'Replace Lamp' indicator is flashing, this could either mean your thermal reset switch has been tripped, or you need to actually replace your lamp. Remove the case and check your thermal reset switch and if that is not the problem, NOW you can go out and spend close to $300 and replace your lamp."
Thanks again for the help.
Best,
Fred
Thanks - It was the thermal reset switch. Disappointing that I bought a bulb for nothing.
So let this be an important post for all Sanyo PLV-Z60 owners. If you have a power outage and your projector does not power up correctly afterward with a blinking "Replace Lamp" indicator, don't go out and purchase a new lamp until you take off the top and reset the thermal reset switch.
That's all it was.
Thanks for the info. Son can get back to xbox now.

We had a power outage the other day while my 4 month old Sanyo PLV-Z60 was in use. Upon power restore, the projector would power up, lense cover open, and then after a short period, the lense cover would close and the "Replace Bulb" indicator would blink during power down. Pretty standard behavior for a burnt out bulb. I figured the power outage deprived the bulb from the benefit of the cooling fan after turn-off ending the bulb's life prematurely (only 800 hours). So I purchased a new bulb and installed it following all the instructions, only to find the projector displaying the same symptoms.
Any ideas?
I am getting in touch with Sanyo as well, but I figured I'd throw it out to the group to see if anyone else had experienced the same.
Thanks in advance,
