Ok, I've read enough of this forum today to know that saving for a good $700 projector is a much better deal than buying a cheap $300 projector.
However, my Father (who has a love for all things big and cheap) is getting me a slightly used Infocus LP 210 for my birthday. It comes with three lamps, 2 new and one used for 5 hours, and is only $125. The guy who owns it (a friend) only used it a few times before moving to a projector unfriendly house, so it's just been sitting in a box all this time.
I have a plan of attack for installing this thing, and I just want a Projector Buff's point of view on my strategy.
Planned Setup...
Room Size:
15' x 8' with a 6.5' celling.
I want to place my projector about 8 feet out from the wall, producing a 4:3 image about 6.5' across.
I will be using this setup for DVD's, a PS2 (and a Wii come this fall!), and a PC with Beyond TV running at 800X600. The PC will be connected via direct SVGA, the DVD player and PS2 via S-Video.
The room is nice and dark. In mid-day, you can't see your hands in front of your face with the lights off.
The image quality I'm looking for is "Good enough", size over quality. Readable videogame text is about my only stipulation.
I have almost zero money to invest into this setup.
Questions:
First the screen. I know that you don't get a truly great image unless you use either a real screen, or screen paint. However, I can't invest any real money into this, and the wall I'm projecting on is just drywall that's been painted white. I was planning on using fine sandpaper to smooth out the screen area, spakel the few screw holes present, re-paint the screen area with several coats of pure white semi-gloss, use black gaffer tape to create a boarder, then paint the rest of the wall a dark color.
Any suggestions on how to better use the wall I've been given?
Second question, the video game sound delay. I know that some projection systems suffer from a slight audio/visual delay when playing rhythm based video games. I have tried looking up info about VGA projectors and this issue, but come up with nothing.
Last question, see any glaring issues I'm overlooking? Things like power and cabling I can tackle myself. Any advice would we appreciated. |
