Topic:   Dell M409WX Focusing / DLP vs LCD

I just got a Dell M409WX (DLP)—chosen because of the combination of resolution, portability, inputs and price. Overall I like it a lot, but am debating whether to keep it because of 2 things. First, there is about 1 full turn of play in the focus ring, which makes it very difficult to focus. After turning one way, I have to turn about a turn the other direction before the focus is affected. Q1: Are projectors in general designed this way, or is this unique to this model, or do I have a defective projector? Second, the projector is rated 2000 lumens. In a darkened room in Movie Mode (less brightness) the colors are excellent. On an overcast day in a room with some ambient light either in Movie Mode or PC Mode the colors appear washed out. On the one hand it’s not surprise they wouldn’t be as rich as in a dark room at night. On the other hand I will be making presentations which include some video during the day in rooms which probably will have some ambient light though maybe not as much as my test yesterday. Q2: In this situation would an LCD projector be a significantly better choice or a slightly better choice? Or is a projector with more lumens needed? I considered the Epson EX100 -- if the quality is significantly different I’d consider changing. Q3: How important is resolution, especially native resolution vs. interpolated as well as widescreen? Native is 1200 x 800; max is 1600 x 1200. The difference doesn't seem to be too noticeable. Primary uses will be (1) with small groups in home situation, (2) in various rooms (while traveling) with groups of 5-20 people. Will use for videos and PowerPoint presentations.
