Topic:   Optoma hd65, lamp problems, need help!

I purchased the lamp driver direct from Optoma for $111 shipped. Installation is fairly easy after you open up the projector. There are multiple screws on the bottom of the unit. As well as three tiny screws, one on either side, and one on the back. Make sure you remove all of these. After you do this, press down on the top and slide the top cover towards the lens and it will come off. I recommend removing the three screws on the top cover that connect the controls to the main board. The lamp driver is located on the side of the projector. I took pictures along the way to establish the orientation of everything. Once you remove the lamp driver housing, its fairly easy to remove the old lamp driver and install the new one. Update*** 4/18/13 I removed my email address from the previous post as it has been some time since I replaced my driver and I'm a bit foggy on how to do it now. I'm told the lamp driver is actually cheaper then when I purchased it. Hope my information helped and you have fixed your projector, mine is still running strong!

Is it unusual that in a time where electronics are outdated within weeks that this projector is still produced after almost 3 1/2 years? I do own one and wanted to upgrade and found out that you can still buy it. It has performed flawlessly for me and in comparison to 1080 projectors I do not see a significant difference in that class of projectors. Do others see it the same way or am I not videophil enough not to notice the difference? Has technology not improved enough in those 3 years to justify an upgrade?

Topic:   Optoma hd65, lamp problems, need help!

I have an optoma hd65 projector. A while ago, the projector would not boot up anymore, the fans run, the green light blinks, and about 30 seconds later, the lamp led light will turn solid red and stay that way. I purchased a new bulb, installed it today, and the same exact thing happens. Can anyone please help me??? I cleaned out all of the vents which were not very dusty. Also, previously I had been using the original power cord. I couldn't find that one and used a computer power cord. Could that have anything to do with it? I wouldn't think so being as it did the same thing with the original power cord but who knows. I have tried doing research on this searching the web and have found a lot of people having the same problem, but have not found a solution. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Topic:   Sharpness comparision - Entry level 1080p

I own a HD65 from Optoma and find it extremy sharp although it is only a 720p resolution. It has a 0.6 chip and wonder if that creates the sharpness. The newer models from optoma have a 0.7 chip.

Topic:   Optoma HD65 vs. Acer H5360

I know I am looking at the bottom of the barrel between these two, but I am finishing my basement and am upgrading from a 15 yr old 27 inch TV. So, either of these projectors will be a dramatic upgrade. So, any advice on choosing one over the other? They only differ in price by $20 from TigerDirect. Thanks, Patrick
