Topic:   Suggest a projector for a newbie

I can control the light in my room. I had a "profession installer" visit me for free installation advice. He is suggesting that I need to get projector with Lens Shift. Otherwise he had to install the projector very low from the ceiling. Is this correct? You guys are suggesting me to get 1080p instead of 720p. But, I don't see any 1080p projectors with lens shift under $1500. Please advice.

Topic:   Suggest a projector for a newbie

Hi, my friend has sent me to this site and he mentioned that you guys are very helpful to him. I need your advice on buying new projector. I am planning to add project to my game room. I say this because this room is very bright and not too dark. The length of the room is 16 feet. The projected area is 8' X 8'. My friend has Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 720 and he asked me to get it. The contrast ratio on this is 1:10000 and it would work well in bright room. Is this correct? Also, I see that this model has been discontinue. So, can you guys please suggest on the feature that I should look at for this room before buying a project? Thanks for your help.

Topic:   Epson HC720 lens shift question

I bought the family an Epson Powerlite Home Cinema projector for Christmas (yay!), but I'm having issues setting up. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if the lens shift on my unit is working properly. The PJ is ceiling mounted approximately 15 ft from my 102" screen (16x9 aspect). The PJ is mounted left of centre, so that the lens shift needs to move the image about 25% - 30% to the right. When I do so, the image also moves up onto the ceiling, and when I try to shift it downwards, it moves back towards the left. Perhaps I'm trying to operate at the extreme limits of the lens shift capability? Anyone have experience with this? If I can get this licked, the rest of the setup is standard stuff. I'm REALLY homing to avoid moving the mount, though - more holes in the ceiling to fill are not going to please the Other Half!

Topic:   Need help with a setup.

Recently purchased an Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 720 package from visual apex. Im needing help on finding a system for a surround sound that will accept satellite, hdmi, and I'd like to have two gaming systems hooked to it also (xbox 360 and Wii). The surround sound that I already have is a Sony DAV-HDX589W. It has no way of connecting the satellite to it that I have found. The entire system is for family use and nothing fancy. But I would appreciate any help or ideas that any of you could share with me. As you could probably tell by the projector that I bought my budget is a little on the lower end. But if I could get by with something around $500 to $600 for the time being I would be thankful til I can afford something better on down the road.

Topic:   Epson 720 vs 8100 ?

Hi, I am new to projectors and would like to pick up my first one. Would the Epson 8100 be much different than the 720? I see the bulb hour difference and the 1080 vs 720 for the different models. I would be watching mostly dvds at about 15ft distance from the screen on an approx 100in screen. I like the idea of getting a free bulb with the 720 in case it blows, but wondering if 2 year old tech makes that much difference? Any thoughts?
