Topic:   Home Sports Bar (In progress)

I have wanted to purchase a projector for awhile now, but not so much for a theatre but to recreate a "pub atmosphere" at home for watching hockey games. I recently purchased a used Proxima DP2800 on ebay for $190.45 USD. I would have liked something a little better, but the bulbs are cheap for this, and I decided to go cheap at first and make sure I like the project as a whole. Even though it only has 640 X 480 resolution, I am just feeding it a regular satellite/cable feed, so I don't think it will look bad. There is also no windows in this basement room, so brightness can be controlled. I have calculated that for my room, I will have the projector about 10 feet back, with seating just slightly behind that, and should give me an approx. 90 inch screen (diag). I plan on building the screen soon, and will use fabric over a self-made frame, and place it about 6 inches from the wall. I am doing it on a budget, so I thought I would share some things I have done or am doing with others that might be in the same situation. THE CEILING- The previous home owners had glued false ceiling panels directly to the drywall on the ceiling, and then later on torn them down. This left large chunks of glue and large chunks of missing paper, which made it impossible to use traditional spackle on. I applied it directly to the ceiling, and used blocks of styrofoam to texture it. It gave it a unique finish, at the same time being very forgiving material. The most important part was that I didn't have to pull down all that drywall. It covered the previous owners goofs quite well. The ceiling will be blue as well. Does anybody see these colors posing a problem to viewing? I hope to paint the ceiling tomorrow night, and the rest on the weekend. Any comments or suggestions are greatly welcomed, and I will post updates as they come.
