Thanks for the definitive list of pros and cons. I am on the verge of buying a second projector (thinking Optoma HD65 or HD66) just to watch black and white movies on. My Panny simply CAN NOT give me an image that is all one color. It has been sent to Heartland, and even to Panasonic's facility in New Jersey for "extensive" servicing (I got a new bulb out of them, but I seriously doubt whether any attempt was made to align the panels). I have one color on the top left and the opposite color on the bottom right of the screen (see the screen shot attached). I haven't got the energy to pursue a solution to this problem any further, but still, I want to cry each time I see a black and white movie on my 140" screen (whether it's a tear-jerker or not!).
My previous projector was a BenQ PB6200, which produced stunning black and white images. My question is this: Is it correct to assume that DLP technology (on a properly-adjusted projector) will produce a good black and white image? I had no issues with rainbow effects, and at this point spending a further $700 on a second projector seems pretty reasonable.
I've had the Panasonic AX200U for 1 year now. It's worked fine this whole time, but over the last week the brightness changes by itself....
While you watch something it continually is shifting in an out a stop or two. The dynamic Iris is off and I've tried to adjust everything I can in the menu but nothing stops it. The bulb only has 310 hours on it..... any suggestions?
It's really annoying to watch anything, it's hard to concentrate because all you can pay attention to is the light shifting.
HELP!
Broken PT-AX200u
There is a PT-AX200U for sale near me, however the projector keeps shutting down on its own. Sounds like a over heating problem? Any ideas I can check???
Describe your complete room setup if you don't mind.
For someone 'new' to projection, with about $1,000 to spend, the Panasonic AX200 is one of the best models out there. It is a true home theater HD (720p) projector which is bright, but still maintains excellent contrast, has a great zoom range and lens shift which makes placement pretty versatile in your room.
It can handle a screen from under 80" to over 120" without a sweat.
It also has a 'game' mode which is supposed to decrease the lag time between your game input and the image on screen. NOTE: All displays have some level of lag, so this mode is supposed to maximize your response time and is a feature missing on many displays, but may improve things by only a few milliseconds.
It has a VGA connection for your PC if you want to connect that as well.
Note: There is no audio to speak of with projectors, even those with speakers, have lousy sound. You will need to plan for your audio completely separately from the projection setup.
Don't forget you need a screen of some sort - a painted wall will work as will a DIY screen.
it seems to me that the panasonic ax200u is the most versitile projector out there for some one who wants a projecotr instead of a tv for gaming movie and satalite.
But since i have been readings its reviews i seem to notice some peole saying that it has a low lamp life as well as vertical line problems with the blue colors.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this projector before I go out and get one.
please guys if anyone can help out on this let me know.
