Hey guys, new to home theater and I am kind of lost.
I am having a skipping issue with my current bluray player. The image will occasionally skip frames and I am guessing that it is my HDMI cable.
I have a Sharp DT-510 projector hooked up to the Sony BDP-S350 with a cheap Dynex HDMI cable so I am looking to upgrade. I asked the guys at best buy and they think the skipping is because I currently have a 60Hz HDMI cable and I should have atleast a 120Hz.
I tried checking the specs online for the projector and bluray player but I could not find any information on what Hz they support. I am a little confused as to exactly what this rating means and how it applies to the projector and bluray player. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Why do you need LCD?
If you are concerned about rainbow effects as you saw them on a business PJ you used once, it shouldn't affect your decision on a PJ purchase. Most business PJs have x2 colour wheels, and the PJ I'm going to recommend is a x5 speed unit which means less RBE issues.
As it stands you could get the Sharp DT-510 (DLP, 720P, $700 at Tigerdirect.com) for just $50 more.
Of your list, the EX70 is the best choice. It, and the Home Cinema 700 are virtual clones.
That said I'd really suggest that if you are unwilling to buy DLP, that you save a little more for a better LCD unit than the EX70. If you want an excellent LCD Home Theatre Model, at the $1k mark you'll have a slew of options. |

Thanks for the comment AV_Integrated, Its great knowing your here to oversee any issues I have getting this install together. You have been of invaluable help.I just want to say thanks.
The deeper I get into this projector setup the more Im starting to see how involved it really is.I have a steep learning curve ahead.
In hind sight I think I should have employed an installer, but we live in the bush and cant get people out here without it costing a fortune.
I have a friend that is an electrician coming out on Tuesday to put in the down lighting and dimmer swicthes for the room.Im also going to get him to install a few power points around the place.Im going to leave the projector wiring till I can sort out the finer points.
Im still stressing about the screen size, screen position ,projector mounting point and speaker wiring points.
Im in two minds now as to whether to mount the projector off the ceiling or cut a recess into the back wall to shelf the projector.
If I hang the projector via a pole Im going to have an ugly long pole hanging in the room 2 feet above our heads. But I can get the good screen size adjustment. If I mount the projector into a recess in the wall it will look much cleaner and I wont have any cables visible just a square with the projector sitting in its pigeon hole.
The down side is the projector wont be able to produce a picture any smaller than 105 inches diagnoally 90 inches wide at 12 feet, which I fear will be too large for viewing at 11 feet.
My options at this point is to use the ugly pole and mount the projector at 10 feet or lower the screen height to 12 inches off the floor and mount the projector in a wall recess or sell the DT - 510 and buy a more suitable projector with a better zoom adjustment to make the screen size smaller.
After thinking about screen height I realized that a larger screen would look much better lower to the floor rather than having the screen 3 ft up in the air.Something that I didnt even think about.
decisions decisions.

Just a note to the last post.I found an old post discussing this projector height issue.Took me 3 hours to find it but it was their.
To get the best possible picture quality, mount the projector from the ceiling with the projector at the top of the final screen height minsus the given projectors offset.
So it looks like I will need to drop the projector height 28 inches not 48 inches for a 100 inch diagnoally projected image 24 inches off the floor.
Calculation for a 10 foot throw Sharp DT 510 Projected wall height 112 inches - screen picture height 50 inches - 24 inches height from floor to bottom of screen - projector off set 10 inches @ 10 feet throw = 28 inches projector drop from centre of projector lens to ceiling.
thanks

Can someone give me some advice about projector ceiling mounting height. The projector mounted vertical from the ceiling has an offset drop height of 14 inches at 11 feet from the screen.I have to mount the projector at 10 feet from the screen to be able to have either a 90 or 100 inch screen size.I guess I will have around 12 inches offset at 10 feet.I havnt decided on the final screen size but will possibly go to 100 inch.Viewing distance is 11 feet. The projector ceiling mount I have will allow the projector to be mounted 4.5 inches from the ceiling. The ceiling height is 112 inches.
I want to project the picture so as the bottom of the screen will be 24 inches off the floor.I have done some rough calculations and I figure I will need to drop the projector via a pole some 48 inches. But I think I have gotten some thing wrong.Do I need to drop the projector 48 inches to get the screen height 24 inches off the floor.Or can I tilt the projector down from the ceiling with just a 12 inch extension and use keystone adjustment to square up the picture. The cieling mount will allow the projector to be tilted about 20 degrees down.I am aware of keystone adjustment but not sure how much keystone adjustment I can get out of this sharp DT 510 projector. Is their a height calculator one can use to work things out.
Thanks
