Hi im just beginning to learn about projector specs... I want to buy a used one for my home theater for around $500 or less (preferably between $300 and $400 but i would be willing to spend up to 500 for a much better product... craigslist is questionable at best for i have been ripped of 2 out of 2 times i have purchased from it, but hopefully someone will eventually be honest... I have a wall that is 12' tall and 13' wide roughly... so i was thinking about wanting a 120" to 140" wide screen...
Any ideas are greatly appreciated...
I did see an Acer PH530 on craigslist for asking $500...

For HDTV movies; what I might try with a Acer PH530:
My computer has a radeon x1950pro video card. It has a DVI out. If I buy a DVI to HDMI cable and hook the DVI from my computer to my projector with HDMI that should work correct?
Inside my video card control panel: From there my computer should realize it has another display hooked up, the projector. So, at this point both displays should show, my monitor (default) and the projector. I then select "clone" to second display, the projector, to get the same picture on both.
There is an option also to force display to 1280x720 (hdtv mode) which would be the same native format as my projector, with 720p.
From there I should be able to run hdtv movies which I can download for small fees from movie sites.
All in all I should be able to get 720p hdtv picture quality for movies by playing them on my computer, then onto the projector.
Will this work? I plan on getting blueray and HDTV comcast box in a few years and it is extra $$ monthly so I'll wait on that.
Please let me know if I'm thinking correctly. Would be awesome to see HDTV on my projector (yeah 720p); without having to pay for HDTV services or dvd players?!
Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've had the Acer PH-530 for about 4 months now and it just started to flash green or red on the whole image while watching tv. I tried 2 different connections and they are both doing it. I cleaned out the projector of dust and figured that would help but it didnt. If I shut the projector off and let it sit for about 5 min and turn it back on it is a normal picture again. The projector warning lights for temperature or bulb dont come on. Anyone have any ideas why its doing this? Is it the bulb? Thanks.

Yeah, that was my Acer that had a very similar problem this week: I've had it for about three months, worked fine. Went to turn it on Saturday and the fan came on and stopped about four times, then the 'lamp' indicator light came on.
I called Acer and they're shipping me a new lamp (it's under warranty). That is kinda freaky, we both that the same problem at the same time with two different machines!! What are the odds...
I'll let you know if the new lamp solves the problem! Good luck with your projector!!

OK, so I bought my Acer PH530 in October, had it two months, last used it Dec. 8, about 45 hours on the lamp, no problems.
I just went downstairs, turned it on, and this is what happened:
The fan started, stopped, started, stopped, started, stopped.
The 'lamp' indicator came on.
The unit shut down, and the power indicator went back to blinking. The lamp itself never came on.
Can anyone tell me what's going on? It was working fine a week ago. Could the unit be too cold to function? It's a little cool in my basement (I guess about 64 degrees) but it's not freezing.
I never got any indication the last time I used it that there was any problem with the lamp...if anybody can tell me what might be going on I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
