Topic:   HDMI to S-Video?

I am wondering if I hook up my HDMI DirectTV box to my projector (Optoma ep716) if I will get a HD picture? The projector doesnt have a HDMI input, however I can buy an adapter to convert it to S-Video. Can anyone help me here? Thanks.....

Topic:   Moving from Optoma EP716 to EP761 or HD65?

Hey guys, just need some recommendations here... I've currently got EP716 projector hooked up with my receiver/digital tv terminal/dvd player/computer via component, as I am not planning to go HD just yet but the option is there (as receiver is more than capable of it, I'd just have to upgrade my DVD player), and it's in my living room. The room during the day can get a regular amount of daylight (unless I flip the blinds and darken it completely, which is an option I've exercised enough times), and as such, with regular daylight the current projector isn't really displaying the clearest picture. I am not sure if that's because the lamp has been used for too long and is now losing the sharpness and edge (as the lamp hours can be reset, and I bought it used), or if it's simply due to the amount of light at times and such. Either way, I am thinking of upgrading either to EP761 or HD65. Now, from the specs I see huge differences in contrast & brightness - EP761 has 3200 ANSI brightness and 2200:1 contrast, while HD65 has 1600 ANSI brightness and 4000:1 contrast (total opposite, so to speak). Well, numbers don't mean much to me without seeing them in action, so is there any way someone here could clear that up for me in terms of real life performance and what those differences translate to in reality? How brighter is 3200 ANSI in EP761 than 1600 ANSI in HD65, and vice versa - how better is 4000:1 contrast in HD65 than 2200:1 contrast in EP761? And when are they best used, how do they perform in daylight conditions, etc? Anyone have any experiences/comparisons? Thanks in advance...

Topic:   Outdoor Theater - How many bugs can a 716 pass?!

I was tired of the same old yack-yack and get drunk at my local biker club every weekend. I suggested that we get a video projector and start watching all the concert videos Netflix has. So after a week of research I got the go ahead with a $750 budget. After almost another week on ebay being outbid on used projectors I had the sense to change gears and set up the browser to Buy-it-Now, new listings. Then it only took one day to get a New Optoma 716 for $450 & free shipping. Then I got a Sony 70 watt per channel STR-K660P surround for $60 including shipping. I knew that the best way to drive this was with a PC, so after asking around I got a donated Dell Pent 3/800 and a Gateway G6-450, Pent II. Searched for a PCI sound card with optical out and found a Turtle Beach Riviera at New Egg for $40. Put the Riviera in the Pent 3/800 with Power DVD 5 set on CLEV (CyberLink Eagle Vision) and SPDIF audio. Started Pink Floyd Pulse, CRAP IT COULDN’T HANDLE IT. No graphics card so the processor had the full load. The specs on Power DVD 5 say Pent 450 and the Riviera say 400. So I took a look inside the Gateway G6 and found a pretty hefty looking AGP card. I typed the serial # in on the Gateway site and got the latest BIOS, DVD-ROM flash, sound & video drivers. That built like a tank 1998 Pentium 2 G6 played PULSE with the FULL EAGLE VISION, sound enhancement and every other add on you could check just beautiful. Got a 10’ VGA extension & TOSLINK optical cable at the local computer store for $20 and was finished at a total $570 We watched Alice Cooper & Guns’ n’ Roses on the side of your standard King Canopy white 10 x 20 ft tent. And for $60 the Sony surround is just left set up in the field for the summer with plastic thrown over it. It’s REDNECK HEAVEN ! I’ll be interested in finding out just how many bugs an Optoma 716 can pass before any problems. Thanks Projector Central, your reviews made the whole project a lot less stressful. There is talk of people bringing there USB chip drives with the latest downdoads from BangedUp next week. I hate to think of what this might deteriorate into!
