Topic:   Panasonic PT-AE900U and Samsung Blu-Ray

I have a Samsung Blu-Ray BDP-1600. Originally no problems using an HDMI cable. Now, however, the picture is enlongated from top to bottom when viewed with Blu-Ray, true when playing DVD or streaming Netflix. Interestingly, when I hook up local TV with OTA converter, no problem. Again, originally everything worked fine, then this popped up. I can play my blu-ray using component cables, just wonderfin what the deal is.

Topic:   Panasonic ae900 will not focus across entire image

I'm having a weird problem that I can't seem to solve. My panasonic ae900 will not focus across the whole image. If the top of the image is in sharp focus the bottom will not be and vice-versa. Assuming that either my screen or my projector wasn't level I leveled the projector and spent time making sure my screen hangs straight down and it didn't help. If the top is in focus the bottom only begins to come into focus if i tilt the screen at a 10 degree angle or greater. The projector is placed high up relative to the screen and I have the lens shifted essentially as far down as it will go. Anyway, I feel like there is some issue with how the projector is leveled, that the lens is angled wrong but the machine itself is level on all sides and in all directions. as well tilting the projector upwards, even dramatically doesn't seem to bring the bottom into focus. So, my next best guess is there is something wrong with the lens.

Topic:   AE900 Issue - Light goes Dim, Bright, Dim Bright ...

My AE900 has a really annoying issue that has reared it's ugly head once again, and my searches on the topic have proven mostly fruitless, and am hoping someone can help. THE PROBLEM: My pj has just started doing this thing where the light output changes (basically it dims, then goes bright, dims, etc, etc.) every few seconds. This is NOT a "the flicker issue" ... this is a light output issue. It happened on my last bulb and it only had about 500-600 hours on it, and I had Panny send me a new one, and this new one has started doing it after only about 300 hours, so I'm guessing it is not the bulb. It is EXTREMELY annoying when watching a movie, and is very noticeable in all but the darkest of scenes, and even those once you start seeing it. Switching back to ECONO mode, then back to NORMAL mode has no effect. This project sees relatively light use, and is well maintained (clean the filter normally every 50 hours, max every 75-100), very clean environment, not subject to vibrations, never abused, etc. I read about this issue with at AX100, and there was some kind of "black-tape over a sensor fix" but could never find any more about it, or if it would even apply to the AE900. I doubt it is a power issue as it just pops up out of nowhere, and the power supply/source has not changed at all. In fact nothing has changed. Also, it does not matter what input I am using (HDMI HD-DVD, COMP1 DVD, COMP2 BLU-RAY, HD-CABLE TV, etc, etc.) Has anyone had any experience with this or heard about any remedies to this problem? I would GREATLY appreciate any input. Thanks!

Topic:   Repair it or Scrap it??

My Panny 900U is about 3 years old and has developed a loud rattle on start up. I didn't find any postings here on that issue (if I missed any, sorry about that), but I saw postings on AVForum that indicate this is a common problem and typically costs over $1k to fix. I've got a service call into Panansonic and will know more on Monday. So here's my dilemma: Repair it or Scrap it? I bought it new for about $2k. If I spend another 1000 now, how long will it last before another issue sidelines it? What's the avg life of a projector? OR...Option B (which I like): Buy a new projector. And what are the best choices nowadays for about $2k or so. SPECS: 15'x18' blacked out dedicated movie room, 15' throw distance onto a 5'5' x 8' Severtson screen (silver). Thanks!!
